Police tackle illegal parking in Warwick

Police have launched an operation to tackle the problem of illegal parking in Warwick that is causing increasing concern amongst local residents and business people.

Inspector Richard Woodcock said

"We’ve taken a number of measures including drafting in extra temporary Traffic Wardens to the Town Centre to support the regular Warden and during the week ending 1 August, we issued approximately 100 Fixed Penalty Tickets.

"Alongside the Town Council, we are also lobbying the Highways Authority to ensure the parking restriction signage is clear to motorists and legally correct to support prosecutions for those who fail to comply.

"We have also written to shopkeepers, in liaison with the Chamber of Trade, informing them that there will be a campaign of increased enforcement over the summer months to enforce the regulations more effectively."

Inspector Woodcock said

"This ongoing campaign has been highly successful so far and will continue. It has been well received by the majority of Warwick residents and Traders who fully understand the need for a disciplined approach to parking.

"It is true that we only have limited Traffic Wardens at our disposal but we will ensure we use them to maximum effectiveness, and have also been using local Police units to support the initiative."

He continued "I should like to thank the Public, the Town Council and the Chamber of Trade for their support and co-operation."
