Beating Rural Business Crime
Police work with businesses to beat rural crime
Police are inviting rural businesses to attend a FREE Beating Rural Business Crime seminar in the Defra Pavilion at Stoneleigh Park in Warwickshire between 1.30pm and 3.45pm on Tuesday, 9 November.
Peter Guillaume, Business Crime Reduction Project Manager, explained
"In the last 12 months 35% of crime against business occurred in rural locations. We want to work with rural businesses to reduce this figure.
"There are many cost effective measures that businesses such as farms, livery yards and garden centres can take to protect themselves from criminals and the seminar offers a real-life interactive opportunity to see at first hand what crime prevention measures rural businesses can take to help keep criminals at bay."
The event organised in conjunction with the Warwickshire Rural Hub, will also mark the launch of Rural Watch and participants will be given the opportunity to learn how it could help their business at first hand from Chief Inspector Mike Slater and Henry Lucas, Chair of the Warwickshire Rural Hub. The scheme is open to everyone in the rural community.
Rural Watch alerts premises and individuals of local crime or intelligence which is relevant to them and serves to remind the public about crime which helps to make them more alert and vigilant.
Peter said
"This scheme will help to improve communication between police and the rural community. We have been very impressed by the level of interest to date.
"We anticipate the interactive case studies being extremely popular, as it's an opportunity for participants to learn what can be done to deter criminals in common rural crime situations around farms and garden centres.
"We will also be looking at products such as Smartwater - a unique forensic property marking solution with its own individual chemical blueprint. It is colourless, odourless and once applied to valuables is virtually impossible to remove.
"Our demonstration of a low cost CCTV equipment now on the market, could prove a breakthrough for many rural businesses who simply can not afford the more expensive alternatives."
Peter continued
"There will be plenty of opportunities for questions to be asked as we also aim to generate discussion amongst participants. The feedback we obtain from rural businesses is invaluable as it helps us target our Beating Rural Business Crime service to meet the specific needs of the rural community.
Demand for the seminar is expected to be high, so please book in advance by sending your name, address, daytime telephone number and email address to Emma Horn, Warwickshire Rural Hub c/o RASE, Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire CV8 2LZ as soon as possible.
