Helicopter crash near Stratford

Incident 390 of 11 November 2004 - Helicopter crash near Stratford-upon-Avon

Investigators from the Aircraft Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB), part of the Department for Transport, will today continue to examine the scene of a fatal helicopter crash near Stratford on Avon.

The helicopter crashed at shortly after 15.30 yesterday afternoon (Thursday 11 November), into a field near the village of Wilmcote, about a mile south of Stratford on Avon.

Eyewitnesses say that the helicopter - described as a small two seater model - dropped to the ground a few hundred metres from industrial units at Cable Pool Farm.

The air ambulance, ambulance and fire service were called to the scene but the pilot, a man who is not from the Midlands region, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident investigators will carry out a detailed field investigation at the scene before the aircraft wreckage is moved to their facility at Farnborough, where further examination will take place.
