Warwickshire PC wins UK Probationer of the Year 2004
Warwickshire PC Steven Brown, currently stationed at Stratford-upon-Avon, has won the prestigious Jane’s Police Review Probationer of the Year 2004 Award.
John Burbeck, Chief Constable of Warwickshire Police said, "This is a tremendous achievement for Steven and we are very proud of him. He was one of 29 officers nominated for this award and has been chosen as the best probationer in the whole of England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The Award recognises Steven’s outstanding personal and practical policing skills."
The Home Secretary David Blunkett presented the award, alongside Fiona Bruce and Nick Ross, at a packed awards ceremony at the Marriott Hotel in London last night, Wednesday 17 November. Steven received an engraved medal, a certificate and a £3,000 bursary to fund a trip to Europe to study training in a European force.
Steven is a very well respected Officer and very early in his Probation he identified problems involving Drugs at Schools and Colleges in Stratford. He worked with the local CBO to create an action plan involving high profile policing and a plain-clothes operation to address the issue.
Steven is a professional officer who clearly brings maturity in his outlook to his job, he has already had to deal with challenging situations during his duties but keeps a level head and always remains professional whatever the incident.
Born in May 1974 in Edgbaston, Birmingham, Steve joined Warwickshire Police on the 30 September 2002. A Graduate BA (Hon’s) in Communications and Cultural Studies, he worked in IT prior to joining the Police Service.
Two other Warwickshire officers were nominated for Awards. PC Alan Spittles, based at Coleshill, was nominated for Community Police Officer of the Year, and PC Carolyn Went made a significant contribution to the True Vision project, which aims to raise awareness of hate crime, and was nominated alongside colleagues from neighbouring forces for the NEW Diversity in Action Award.
