ASBO Granted against 14yr old Bulkington boy
Police have praised the courage of local residents who came forward to provide information enabling an application for a Anti Social Behaviour Order to be applied for against a 14 year old boy in Bulkington.
The ASBO was granted by magistrates sitting at Nuneaton against 14 year old Damien Philip Jacques, of Weston Lane, Bulkington on November 15 and will now run for two years until November 2006.
The order was brought after it was agreed the defendant had acted in such a way that he had caused, or was likely to cause, harassment, alarm of distress to persons which included intimidating behaviour and harassment, was verbally abusive, including swearing, used and threatened violence, took property which was not his own, was in possession of a BB gun and entered premises without express permission to do so.
The terms of the ASBO are that Jacques is now prohibited from:
- Behaving aggressively or intimidating anyone by language or by conducting himself in any way which is likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress.
- Being verbally abusive, swearing or using foul or offensive language.
- Using or threatening to use violence towards others.
- Taking or attempting to property which does not belong to him.
- Entering anyone else’s house or garden, or entering any school premises without express permission.
- Entering any premises from which he is banned.
- Being in possession of a firearm, imitation forearm or toy firearm in a public place, or school.
- Helping of persuading anyone else to commit any acts as outlined above.
If Jacques should, without reasonable excuse, do anything which he is prohibited from doing under the terms of the ASBO he may be liable, on conviction, to be fined or could face a term of detention of up to two years, or both.
Speaking about the granting of the ASBO against Jacques, Sergeant Alan Rymell of Bedworth Police said, "This is part of our strategy for targeting Anti Social behaviour, working in partnership with the council and the community. This sends out a clear message to all youths who create problems - we will be looking at you and will be following a similar course of action where necessary."
Community Beat Officer for Bulkington, PC Sharon Hilton praised members of the community for their support in gathering information for the ASBO application. She said, "I would like to thank the residents of Bulkington for being brave enough to come forward to give statements. This has taken a lot of strength and moral courage due to the fear of reprisals. I hope that having seen the this success that more residents will come forward to support the police in the future and their battle againist Anti Social behaviour by nuisance youths."
