Tracey is extra special

Warwick Court

Tracey Durgahed, who joined Warwickshire Police in July this year as the new Specials Constabulary Trainer has just taken on a second and equally important role. She has become a Police Special.

Tracey, 30 from Coventry explained why she wanted to become a special

"The Specials really supported me in my new role as their trainer and invited me to go out on patrol with them to gain a valuable insight into what they do. Seeing them as volunteers supporting the community and working alongside the regulars made me realise how much I admire them and their enthusiasm really rubbed off on me. They have motivated me to want to do the same.

"I saw that the job is hard work but at the same time is extremely rewarding and you get out of it what you put into it.

"I’m going to be based in Southam and am really looking forward to getting out on my first patrol and working as part of a team. I’m hoping to be operational before Christmas."

Like all Specials, Tracey will be giving up her free time for her new police duties and will share the same powers as a regular police officer when on duty.

Tracey will bring the number of Special Constables in the Warwickshire force to 185.

In her day job as Special Constabulary Trainer, Tracey designs and delivers training courses, course lessons and examinations for the specials as well as assessing performance. The range of subjects covered includes the law, first aid, officer protection training and diversity training. The specials training programme lasts 26 weeks and is based both in the classroom and out on the streets.

Tracey’s attestation ceremony, was at 3.30pm on Thursday 9 December when she will be welcomed into the force by Chief Constable John Burbeck, alongside eight regular recruits. The Ceremony will be attended by friends and family.
