Rugby police make it a memorable night out

As part of the ongoing campaign to reduce town centre violence, revellers in Rugby will be able to visit a police display at the Clock Tower in Rugby between 7pm and 10pm on Saturday 6 August 2005. Working in partnership with the Town Centre Management and the Community Alcohol Service, advice and information about the dangers and consequences of drinking alcohol to excess will be available.

In an innovative approach to the problem, selected footage taken from the Rugby town centre CCTV will be projected onto the side of a police van. Each scene will show men and women who are drunk and are displaying anti social, disruptive or inconsiderate behaviour to other people or their property.who

Local crime prevention officer PC Neill MacKenzie, who will be one of the officers on duty in the town centre on Saturday said, "This is not intended to be entertainment but more a wake up call to those whose sole intention is to go out to get drunk. This CCTV footage not only shows the disorderly behaviour of the drunk which will not be tolerated by the police, but also shows how vulnerable the drunk person can be".

"There will also be an interactive display that can be used to find out more about alcohol and other recreational drugs."
