Police Distribute Calendars To Help Prevent Distraction Burglaries
Fifteen thousand high quality calendars will be delivered to homes in Stratford district and in North Warwickshire. The calenders show archive photographs of towns and villages in the county, alongside reminders of the tactics distraction burglars use. In addition at the bottom of each month, fire prevention messages are highlighted.
The initiative is part of a partnership response to the number of distraction burglaries occurring in the County. Between January 1 to September 30 this year, there were 96 distraction burglaries recorded, a 7% increase during the same period last year (89 offences.)
PC Nick Stephens from the southern crime prevention team said:
"The calendars will initially be distributed to just two areas of the county, but the long term plan is to get funding to provide a calendar to every senior citizen aged 70 and over in the county. I would like to thank my colleagues on the distraction Burglary Group who has helped to put this calendar together and also my army of volunteers neighbourhood watch coordinators, police community support officers and other volunteers who are helping to take these to people's house."
