Police Appeal: Duck Kicked to Death

Police are appealing for help after a group of youths are reported to have been seen kicking a duck to death in Stubbs Park in Nuneaton at shortly before 8.30pm on Wednesday 27 April.

A member of the public witnessed the horrific scene in which the group of four males, all aged between 14 - 16 years, were seen to kick the bird around the park as if it was a football. The witness, who was too afraid to intervene reported the incident to the police.

The four, all white males are all described as being approximately 5 feet tall and of medium build. Two of the youths were wearing base ball caps, one had a black hat and a white T-shirt and the fourth was wearing a white long sleeved t-shirt and black tracksuit bottoms.

Two of the youths went towards the skate board ramp and two others, one with a bike, went off towards Green Lane.

Police will now be liasing with the RSPCA in connection with this incident.

A police spokesperson said, "It is beyond belief that anyone could inflict such cruelty towards a live creature. The police will be liaising with the RSPCA in order to progress this case with a view to identifying the offenders. We would appeal to anyone who has any information about the incident, or who can identify the youths to come forward."

Note: It is an offence to kill any wild bird under the Wildlife and Countryside Act. This includes ducks during the nesting season. The maximum penalty is a fine for this offence is £5000 and up to six months in jail.
