Withybrook murder - update
Murder update - two weeks since Withybrook Murder
On Saturday, 3 September it will be exactly two weeks since the murder of 61 year old Michael (Mick) Boffey.
Mick died on Saturday 20 August at Withybrook, near Rugby in Warwickshire, and almost two weeks to the day, police are continuing to urge the public to contact them if they recall seeing a P registered silver coloured Mondeo car.
Detective Inspector Andy Nolan, who is co-ordinating the murder enquiry said,
"We are following up all lines of enquiry and have a team of dedicated officers working on the investigation.
"We would like to thank all the members of the public who have so far come forward to assist us with information. The response has been very good and has provided us with valuable information, but we are still appealing for people to spend a few minutes trying to recall the events of Saturday 20 August and if they remember anything, however insignificant they think it might be, to let us know."
Mr Boffey had seen his green land rover, BT 53 AJX being stolen from Grange Farm, Featherbed Lane, Withybrook at around 11.20am on Saturday morning, August 20. He attempted to intervene but in doing so was struck by the vehicle, which did not stop and left Featherbed Lane. Tragically Mr Boffey died as a result of the collision.
Mr Boffey's land rover was found later on Saturday, parked around three miles away in the church car park in School Lane, Wolvey. Police enquiries suggest the land rover had been parked there at around 11.30am. The vehicle was recovered by police for forensic examination.
Both at Withybrook and in Wolvey a silver car is reported to have been seen with the land rover.
Police are now keen to hear from anyone who may have seen anything suspicious involving a silver car last weekend, possibly a P registered Ford Mondeo.
In particular they are asking residents living in South West Leicestershire, South Staffordshire or North Warwickshire if they saw a vehicle matching this description, acting suspiciously between 12:30am (half past midnight) on Saturday 20 August and 5.30pm on Sunday 21 August 2005.
They are also keen that anyone who has any information relating to a silver vehicle to contact them and ask anyone with CCTV footage or other recorded images, to ensure they do not delete the footage, but to contact the police in order that they can arrange to view it.
Anyone with any information about the murder enquiry is asked to contact the dedicated incident room number on 01926 415795 where all calls will be treated in confidence. Callers can also contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 where the information can be given anonymously.
