Inc 749 Tuesday 4 July, Distraction Burglary, Rugby - artists impression available

Police have issued an artists impression of the person they wish to speak to following a distraction burglary which took place in Nelson Way, Rugby at approximately 11.45pm on Tuesday 4 July.

A female householder (age not given, but on this occasion not an elderly victim) answered a knock at her front door and found a black male who enquired about a car being for sale.

The woman did not have a car for sale and closed the door on the caller.

She then became aware of a second male who had entered her home via the open back door - the door having been left open due to the hot weather. The man left the kitchen, via the open door, as she went to investigate the noise. Her handbag, containing credit cards and cash, was missing from a work top in the kitchen.

It is believed the two males were working together in their scam to distract the householder.

The male who is believed to have stolen the handbag is described as being black, aged 18 - 22 years, of slim build and approximately 5ft 7 inches tall. He hair, which was approximately an inch long was in an "afro" style. He was wearing a dark coloured hooded top, tracksuit bottoms and possibly had white gloves on.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact PC Adam Skelsey at Rugby Police Station on 01788 541111 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 where the information can be given anonymously.

Police also remind householders to ensure their doors and windows are kept securely closed, even in hot weather.

ENDS Note to newsdesks: A jpeg of the artists impression is available on request to the press office.
