UPDATE Police renew appeal for witnesses following assault in Greenmoor Road, Nuneaton

Incident 118 of 2 September

Police are renewing their appeal for witnesses to come forward to help them with their enquiries into a serious assault that occurred at around 02.30 hours on Saturday 2 September in Nuneaton.

DI Tim Guilfoyle who is leading the investigation said "We are pursuing a number of lines of enquiry at present and urging witnesses to contact us."

The 16 year old male taken by ambulance to George Elliot Hospital in Nuneaton suffering from head and facial injuries has now been transferred to Walsgrave Hospital. He also has a hand injury requiring an operation and his condition is described as improving. Police are continuing to liaise with his family on a daily basis.

The disturbance occured when a group of approximately 20 white youths congregated in the recreation ground in Marlborough Road and a group of asian youths arrived. The disturbance continued along Cat Gallows into Greenmoor Road where the assault took place. Some of the individuals are believed to have been carrying pieces of wood. Around four or five youths received minor injuries during the altercation.

DI Tim Guilfoyle who is leading the criminal investigation said "We have set up an incident room with a dozen dedicated officers working on the case. High visibility patrols have been increased in the area for the foreseeable future to reassure the community and gather information.

"We are being open minded as to why this incident occurred and would urge anyone we have not spoken to who could help us with our enquires into this incident to come forward by please contacting Nuneaton CID on 02476 483168 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

DI Guilfoyle added "We are very pleased with the excellent support and assistance received from all sections of the local community and would continue to urge them to report any antisocial behaviour in their area they may be concerned about."
