Warning over bogus callers in Warwick

Police warned elderly and vulnerable people to be suspicious of unexpected visitors to their homes following two suspicious incidents in Warwick involving bogus callers.

An elderly woman living in Hampton Street had a visit from two men at about 13 30 on Tuesday October 12.

They told her they had come to adjust her water pressure because they were working on a local building site.

The woman was suspicious and told them she wanted to check their identity. Nothing was taken and the two left.

Both men were white. One was wearing a yellow jacket and green overalls and had an Irish accent and curly hair. The other was taller and thinner with blond hair.

At around the same time in the Woodloes area of the town a white man with an Irish accent visited a number of homes claiming he was checking water pressure. It’s believed he was travelling in a red coloured N registered Ford Escort. Police are warning elderly people to be suspicious of all unexpected callers particularly those claiming to represent a water, gas or electricity company.

Use a door chain if you have one or look through a window to check whether you recognise the visitor.

Bogus callers will always look and sound plausible and genuine. If in doubt do not open the door.
