Thieves Target Keys of High Performance Cars
Detectives are investigating a recent series of overnight car key burglaries and warning motorists to keep their car keys concealed and secure.
The most recent incident happened during the early hours of October 29 at a house in Bond End, Monks Kirby. Offenders broke in through a kitchen window to steal cash, a mobile telephone and keys to a blue BMW convertible that was driven away from outside the house.
And at shortly before 00 30 early hours of October 28 residents of a house in Wolvey Road, Bulkington, Bedworth were disturbed by a noise. They discovered that the house had been burgled and cash, a wallett and keys to a red Ford KA registered BK03 XPW stolen. The car was stolen from outside the house. It's believed the offenders forced a kitchen window to gain entry.
Detectives warned all motorists to review security of their homes and vehicles before going to bed at night. DC Yvonne Rawson from North Warwickshire CID said: "Ensure car keys are concealed in a safe place and not left where they can be seen through windows or letter boxes. If possible lock vehicles inside a garage and ensure all doors and windows to the property are secured".
"Criminals are targeting homes where they can see car keys that have been left in the kitchen or on hall tables so concealing the keys will help deter burglars".
DC Rawson added: "Owners of high performance cars should be particularly vigilant. Burglars have been targeting high performance cars in rural areas around Rugby."
On October 3 a Subaru Turbo car was stolen in a car key burglary at Willowbank Road, Wolston. A silver Audi Quattro was taken after burglars broke into a house in Shepherd Street, Marton, during the early hours of October 6. A green Subaru Impreza was stolen from outside a house in Bilton Road, Rugby during the early hours of October 25.
