Operation Feather: Stratford district drugs and alcohol initiative
Twenty police officers were involved in Operation Feather 2 on Friday night September 17.
The operation was a high profile police initiative to crackdown on drink and drug related disorder in Stratford district towns.
Two dogs specially trained to detect drugs were also used in the operation at several public houses and bars in Stratford, Studley and Alcester.
A total of 40 people were searched under the powers of the Misuse of Drugs Act and four seizures of cannabis were made. One man was arrested in Alcester and one in Stratford. Both were arrested on suspicion of possession of a Class A drug after dogs detected a white powder, believed to be cocaine or amphetamines. Both were taken to Leamington Custody for interview and inquiries continue.
Operation Feather 2 was a follow-up to the successful Operation Feather which was launched in July during the six week summer offensive against binge drinking and alcohol/drug fuelled violence.
Inspector Tim Bailey led both operations which were well supported by licensees and the public.
“These impactive operations send out a very clear message that drug dealing and drug use in our pubs and bars will not be tolerated. Our aim is to make Stratford District towns safe and enjoyable places to visit and enjoy. said Inspector Bailey.
And he warned: “There will be more high visibility operations like these to reinforce the message that police will stay on the offensive against drunks and drug users who commit crimes in South Warwickshire.”
