Text2talk on BBC Radio 4 today!!
The BBC Radio 4 programme (92.7 FM) - 'You and Yours' is featuring the Force Text2talk on their live discussion programme between 12.30 and 13.00 today.
Chief Inspector Ian Whiting is taking part in a phone in on bullying with presenter Adrian Cask, to explain how in Warwickshire victims of bullies can get help through the confidential text2talk initiative.
Young people text in on 07786 200 999. They then text "bully" or "racist" to alert the control room to the problem they are suffering. If they want help and futher contact they then text in "Yes". If they want no further contact they text in "No".
The text is received in the form of an e mail.
Upon receiving a "Yes" e mail, a dialogue is encouraged between the person texting and the control room to identify the exact details of the problem.
The victim's details are then passed on to the correct agency to deal with the problem. This is usually the Connexions Youth Service or Racial Equality officers at Warwickshire County Council.
The initiative was launched on 21 February 2005 and since then over 100 young people have asked for text2talk help.
